How to Clean a Blender

Here are simple instructions on how to clean a blender. Clean your blender after each use to prevent bacterial growth and remove any residue.

Once you've emptied out the contents of your blender, pour in about 500 ml of warm water and a tiny squirt (don't overdo it) of dishwashing liquid. Blend for 10-20 seconds and pour out into sink. Wipe off any residue left on the sides of your blender with white vinegar and rinse out. Turn upside down to dry.

If you need to take your blender apart to scrub out around the blades, refer to operating instructions for how to dismantle the blender safely. Wash out in a mix of white vinegar and water, using a toothbrush to get into tricky corners.

White vinegar has a high level of acidity, making it effective for killing mould, bacteria and germs. It's cheap, and avoiding harsh chemicals is more environmentally friendly.

Tip

  • Use the water you cleaned your blender with as the base for your next sinkful of dish-washing water.
  • When you're looking for the best blender you can afford , check how easy the blender is to clean.
