High Raw Food Diet Challenge - Day 2

by Trina
(Growing Raw Health)

The point of power is always in the present moment.

This affirmation is to help me when I struggle with making healthy food choices today. Life is very busy and it can be all too easy to reach for a non-raw snack when I'm in a rush.

I can remember from last time I went raw that days 4, 5 and 6 were the hardest. Back then I was going 100% raw straight away. I'm not going as hard as fast this time. I learnt from experimentation that I feel healthier when I incorporate a small amount of cooked food in my diet.

Also, I find it takes considerable planning and effort to make a satisfying raw meal for dinner. Allowing myself even a small amount of flexibility should make my high raw diet more sustainable.

Breakfast was a bit of a rush today, there's so much on at the moment. So my green smoothie was a simple bok choy and banana blend. I drank about a litre of green smoothie for breakfast and had a pear, an apple and a kiwifruit.

Lunch was a salad of baby spinach and avocado rubbed through with a little olive oil and Himalayan crystal salt. I added tomato and pine nuts to the mix and it was delicious. For afternoon tea I ate Ruby red grape fruit slices dipped in agave nectar. This is one of my favourite raw food treats and I'd been looking forward to it all day. It's especially yummy when you sit amongst the sunshine and birdsong to eat.

Dinner was a chickpea vegeburger with baby spinach and raw radish salsa. The radish salsa was a bit of a revelation. I used the food processor to grate up about a dozen radishes and half a Spanish onion, combined it with the juice of two limes, 2 tablespoons of olive oil, a pinch each of Himalayan crystal salt and cayenne pepper and a bunch of chopped fresh coriander. It was fantastic!

By the end of today I was struggling to feel positive. There are other factors, such as stressing out about family health issues and trying to shake off my own lingering cold. However, I was also feeling quite tired. I have to be more mindful of getting enough calories so that I don't run out of energy towards the end of the day.

Ratings for Day 2

Attitude: 4/10

Energy: 4/10

Raw calories: 84% of approx. 1200 calories (way too low!)

My selection of herbs and spices were delivered quickly and were of the best quality I have seen. Great service, fantastic products. Fresh organic herbs from a supplier I trust. - Susan S.

Overall, it was a very positive experience.... they treated me in an exemplary manner when I first ordered from them. I got exactly the product I needed/ordered/expected vis-a-vis the sprouting wheatgrass seeds. I would certainly order from them again for anything that specific. - geo442
