Asparagus

Growing up my favorite vegetable was always green beans. As I grew older and started trying new things I discovered that asparagus, when prepared right, is the best vegetable out there. It's a delicacy and I do not eat it very often, but it still remains my favorite. Other healthy vegetables do not compare. Not the tomato, celery, or even a pepper.

It's very easy to mess up when cooking asparagus. If you boil it you have to be very careful not to cook it too long or it will get mushy and no one will want to touch it. When I prepare it I let it baste in oil, salt and pepper for about 30 minutes. After that I throw it on a hot grill and let it cook. Some people prefer to boil it first, but I think it doesn't taste good if you do this. I usually cut the tough ends off the end of the stick. It tastes absolutely delicious this way. This vegie goes great with most dishes out there. You could add it to a steak dinner or just a nice baked chicken meal. You can serve it as a side along with rice or beans. It's a very versatile vegetable.

A lot of people don't like asparagus. It has a rather odd texture and and somewhat bitter taste. Most people seem to either love it or hate it. It seems to be an acquired taste much the same way coffee and beer are.

Asparagus is a great option for people who enjoy healthy eating. It has a low caloric content, no sodium and no cholesterol. It provides a lot of natural vitamins and has a lot of fiber in it. This especially helps your digestive tract along with the rest of your body. Overall it is a great way to eat healthy if you have the time to prepare it!
